Rhoden wants South Dakota Supreme Court’s take on tie-break rule
Request for High Court’s opinion comes after Senate president vote challenged by Republican leader
Gov. Larry Rhoden requested an advisory opinion from the Supreme Court Monday to determine whether the lieutenant governor can vote to break a tie in the state Senate.
Rhoden made the request after Lt. Gov. Tony Venhuizen attempted to cast a tie vote Thursday. The Senate is currently at 34 members because one member is recovering from illness.
