Find out how much South Dakota's cities, counties are getting from opioid settlement payouts
Money distributed based on population
Local governments across South Dakota are receiving millions of dollars in settlement money from companies that made, sold or promoted opioids.
But exactly how much is filtering into counties and municipalities has been elusive — until now.
Thanks to data reported this month by KFF Health News, the American public can now get a comprehensive look at the amount of settlement payouts their communities are receiving.
The total amount paid out to South Dakota and its governments from the settlements so far is about $52 million, according to KFF, though The Dakota Scout reported earlier this year that figure will eventually be as much as $54 million.
