The ongoing trade tensions and sniping between the United States and Canada is causing significant losses for the visitor industry in Sioux Falls.
The head of the organization that sells the city to travelers and conventions across the country said Tuesday that President Trump’s ongoing disagreements with the Great White North caused travelers to stay on their side of the border rather than venture to Sioux Falls.
“Canada, which has always been a good market for us, is certainly still down,” said Teri Schmidt, the CEO of Experience Sioux Falls, told the City Council during a briefing at Carnegie Town Hall. “Recent numbers are showing that the national situation with Canada is really harming tourism in the United States.”
