South Dakota prison officials say contraband scheme busted
South Dakota corrections officials say they’ve uncovered and shut down a drug smuggling operation inside the state’s prison system that’s been linked to three overdose deaths, including two this month.
The internal investigation, led by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and supported by the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), identified multiple smuggling methods used to bring drugs into DOC facilities in Sioux Falls, Secretary of Corrections Kellie Wasko said Thursday.
