Edmunds County is building a new law enforcement center on the same block as the county courthouse in Ipswich. (Scott Waltman/Aberdeen Insider).

The first bits of work have started on a new law enforcement center in Edmunds County.

Sheriff Jonathan Waldner said bore holes for soil samples have been dug on the site of the new building.

The 10,000-square foot law enforcement center will have 40 beds, a few holding cells, an office for the sheriff and staff, and a dispatch center.

GA Johnson Construction of Harrisburg is the construction manager. Corey Johnson said the biggest job right now is designing the building. Exactly when construction starts depends on how that comes along and when Edmunds County signs off on the design.
