COUNTERPOINT | Tax increment for Black Hills theme park brings opportunity, not expense

Being an “East meets West” South Dakotan, I was born and raised in the farm town of Alcester. Yet since 2001, I’ve called West River home. Like many parents in South Dakota, I’ve watched my children grow up and, eventually, spread their wings.
My twin 23 year olds are currently working their way through America’s national parks, gaining experience and broadening their perspectives. I’m immensely proud of them, but I also carry the deep-seated hope of any South Dakota parent: Wishing to build an area so vibrant and so full of opportunity that they want to come back. That they want to plant their roots here.
