COUNTERPOINT | Harrop paints Democratic Socialists as racists without much proof
Guest column by Charley D. Stroh
Note: Stroh wrote this piece in response to a national column printed in the July 31 edition of The Dakota Scout. Read the original column here.
Froma Harrop’s headline, “Those Democratic Socialists are shockingly racist,” much like the viewpoint it precedes, makes a dramatic claim about the Democratic Socialists of America without actually speaking about members of the DSA and confuses support with racism.
Many valid points can be made in criticizing the DSA, and reasonable people can find themselves disagreeing on the effectiveness of the policy this rising group seeks to put forth, but conflating valid critics with claims of racism only seeks to appeal to people’s emotions and not their intelligence.
