PIERRE — The cease fire is over.

The South Dakota House of Representatives on Thursday picked up where it left off at the end of the last session with a challenge to the Senate: Make last year’s temporary sales tax reduction permanent.

The first House bill filed this year repeals the sunset clause on last year’s tax cut – or tax holiday. Currently, last year’s reduction in the state sales tax from 4.5 percent to 4.2 percent expires on June 30, 2027.

The House Committee on Taxation took up the bill Thursday in its first day.
