A powered parachute crash involving Aberdeen Mayor Travis Schaunaman and two of his children struck the terrain and a barbed wire fence shortly after taking off, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board.
The crash was south of Willow Creek near Westport about 7:20 p.m. Aug. 19. Schaunaman was operating a Para-Ski VX powered parachute.
There were two passengers, one on Schaunaman’s lap and one in the rear seat, per the preliminary report.
