The 3M company is planning a major expansion at its Brookings plants that could reach nearly a half a billion dollars.

The Brookings Economic Development Corp. announced Wednesday that the multi-national conglomerate that produces worker safety, healthcare, and consumer goods intends to spend as much as $468 million beefing up its South Dakota operations.

The three-year project will include 16 additional shipping docks, a new 8,000-slot warehouse, 200,000 more square feet of manufacturing space, as well as laboratory and office space.
