Years of hard work help to restore Lake Hiddenwood Recreation Area

It’s been eight years since a flood decimated the earthen dam at Lake Hiddenwood Recreation Area northeast of Selby in Walworth County.

Now, though, much of the park has been revived and is in better condition than before thanks to the hard work of a dedicated group of local volunteers.

On May 17, 2018, about 13 inches of rain fell in the area, causing the dam to fail and draining the entire lake.

Floodwaters also destroyed the campsites and washed out the only road that provided access to the park and its features.
