Weather turning just in time for outdoor pool season
City's largest splash pad planned to open soon in downtown Sioux Falls
The outdoor city pools in Sioux Falls will open to the public on May 30, while the Parks and Recreation Department also announced the opening date for the largest splash pad in the city.
The 1 p.m. opening on Friday comes at a favorable time weather-wise. The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is forecasting high temperatures for Friday and Saturday in the high 70s and 80s. The uptick in warmer temperatures follows about two weeks of cooler, wetter weather, although Sioux Falls is still well below normal on precipitation for the year.
“Our outdoor aquatic facilities help make summer fun in Sioux Falls because they’re a great way to stay active, cool down, and enjoy the outdoors,” said Jackie Nelson, Recreation Manager for Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation.
The T. Denny Sanford Splash Pad is set to join the city’s public pool system with a July opening, Nelson said in a release. That pad will be open in the heart of northern downtown at Jacobson Plaza. With an outdoor ice ribbon also planned for the site, Jacobson Plaza will be a year-round recreation destination adjacent to the Steel District and Levett at the Falls.
