Vincent “Vinnie” Gene Eide, age 70, of Garretson, SD, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Celebration of Life Gathering will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Private interment will be in the Bethania Cemetery, rural Trent.
Vincent was born on January 20, 1956, to Earnest and Pauline (Bernstein) Eide in Oldham, South Dakota. Vince grew up in Garretson and graduated from Garretson High School in 1974.
On November 20th 1983, Vince and Michele Carlson welcomed a daughter, Katy Kay Carlson.
After school, he operated Eide’s Auto repair shop in Garretson before starting a 28-year career with Nordstrom’s Automotive outside of Garretson. Vinnie was a dedicated mechanic and later, parts delivery driver for Nordstrom’s and was well known and loved by all the auto shops and businesses in the area. He retired on October 20, 2023.
Vinnie lived most of his life in Garretson at the corner of Center Ave and 3rd Street. Most days in the spring/summer/fall, he could be found sitting outside his house with his dog visiting with his friends and people who walked by. After losing his home to a fire in 2017, he lived outside of Garretson on a farm. Vinnie loved fishing, shooting, cars, motorcycles and collecting. He collected all sorts of things, including old tools and guns.
The family would like to say a special thank you to all of the special people in Vinnie’s life including the Nordstroms, Egges, Neal, Wayne, Ken and so many more. You may not be blood but you are definitely family.
Survivors include his daughter: Katy (Steven) Carlson of Brandon, SD; grandchildren: Emily, Ethan, Kaylee, Joezy Carlson and Mercedes Montoya of Brandon, SD; brother, Norman Eide, Graettinger, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Pauline Eide, and brothers, William Sr and Gerald Eide.
