VIEWPOINT | We can agree: A child’s biological identity matters

As a legislator, one of my core responsibilities is protecting children. That’s why I sponsored House Bill 1164 this session – to make fertility fraud a felony in South Dakota. With unanimous passage in both chambers and Gov. Larry Rhoden’s signature the bill became law, effective July 1. It affirms a shared, fundamental truth: a child’s biological identity is not interchangeable.
I thank Gov. Rhoden and my colleagues on behalf of the South Dakotans – especially the children – this law will protect.
