VIEWPOINT | Wait for feds before upending South Dakota’s medical marijuana system
Guest column by Kittrick Jeffries, Cannabis Industry Association of South Dakota
Here we are again back at the legislative session where legislators are taking it upon themselves to try and hash — pun intended — out issues that were decided by almost 70 percent of the voters over five years ago. I have seen similar anti-medical-cannabis legislation killed time and time again by the Legislature, the Medical Marijuana Oversight Committee and in the Medical Marijuana Summer Study; yet a small, minority group of legislators keep coming back again and again.
Their latest attempt at dismantling legal, medical marijuana can be found in Senate Bill 194. It would limit the potency of cannabis products sold at medical cannabis dispensaries. However, a large number of chronic pain patients require higher potency levels to relieve their chronic pain.
