VIEWPOINT | South Dakota can deliver property tax relief without weakening our schools
Guest column by Nan Kelly, Sioux Falls School District Board of Education
South Dakotans are right to be frustrated by rising property taxes. Families, seniors, and small business owners are feeling the pressure, and legislators in Pierre are right to take that concern seriously.
But we also need to be clear about something: strong public schools are not optional. They are part of South Dakota’s constitutional responsibility and the foundation of our communities and workforce. We should not be forced to choose between taxpayers and students. South Dakota can protect both.
