VIEWPOINT | Solar energy can strengthen both South Dakota’s economy and our independence

In South Dakota, independence isn’t just a value – it’s a way of life. We take pride in working hard, running our businesses, farms, and supporting our communities. We also enjoy being as independent as possible when it comes to how we chose to live.
Today, that way of life is being challenged by rising energy costs and increased pressure on our electric grid. One solution is the Solar for All program – a $7 billion grant program through the U.S.
LETTER | Keeping county business focused and respectful
The public’s business is too important to be drowned out by personal insults or political theater. Yet across the country, and sometimes even here at home, these distractions creep into public meetings, sapping time, trust, and focus from the real work that needs to be done. Open, honest public participation is one of the cornerstones of our democracy. In Lincoln County, we welcome thoughtful input from residents – whether they agree with us or challenge our decisions. Strong debate sharpens our thinking and leads to better outcomes.
