I recently attended a political event called the “Change Agents Round Table,” where eight local candidates for office circulated from table to table and answered the questions of voters.
At almost every table I was asked about the topic of hand counting ballots. My answer to every voter who asked about this was consistent. Hand counting makes sense in some of our smaller counties in South Dakota due to the cost of maintaining tabulation equipment, as well as updating and testing that equipment.
