VIEWPOINT | Amendment I would create fail-safe if Medicaid funding shifts

There has been quite the flurry of misinformation flying around about all of the proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot this year. I want to emphasize that, no matter what you have heard, these amendments were all placed on the ballot by the Legislature to protect South Dakota, NOT by some special interests, not by millionaires and not by lobbyists.

First on your ballot will be Amendment I. Amendment I is a fail-safe measure to protect your tax dollars. Medicaid expansion was created by the ACA, the Affordable Care Act. When the voters authorized Medicaid expansion for South Dakota with constitutional Amendment D in 2022, it put a spending priority in the constitution.
