Former U.S. Senator James Abourezk is dying.

The 91-year-old’s family announced via social media Wednesday that he’s been released from a Sioux Falls hospital and is entering hospice care at his home.

“He will be in the care of a hospice team from a Sioux Falls hospital, along with his wife Sana’a Abourezk and members of his family,” read the post.

Abourezk was in the U.S. House of Representatives representing South Dakota from 1971 to 1973, and in the U.S. Senate from 1973-1979, when he retired from politics.
