Theodore “Ted” Baker, 86, of Mt. Vernon, SD, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, October 25, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Mitchell.
Theodore Arnold Baker was born June 16, 1939, to Fredrick Baker Sr. and Rosella (Partridge) Baker in Concord, NH.
Ted married the love of his life, Barbara A. Baker, on June 15, 1957, at Advent Christian Church in Concord, NH. Then life began raising their five children: Penny, Edgar, Tammy, Cindy, and Mark. Ted worked various jobs for Brown Root, Chicago Bridge & Iron, Danie’s, in addition to his own businesses. Ted served in the Air Force and loved to weld. He enjoyed building and racing race cars. Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Ted was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his church family at Cornerstone Church in Mitchell. Ted was a jack of all trades.
Ted is survived by his wife, Barbara Baker; children, Edgar Baker Sr. of Mt. Vernon, SD, Mark Baker of Mitchell, and Cindy Morrison of Bulls Gap, TN; and sister, Patricia Baker of Missouri; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Shirley; parents, Fredrick Baker Sr. and Rossella Baker; siblings, Fredrick Baker Jr., William “Bill” Baker, and Penny Baker; and one great-grandson.
