A Sioux Falls-based cannabis company has forfeited a $100,000 license before it ever got used to sell a single bag of grass.

As a result, Minnehaha County's only permit to sell medical marijuana will once again be up for sale.

Minnehaha County Commissioners have received notification from Genesis Farms, LLC that the statewide marijuana business would not attempt to retain its county license, which has been unused since it was acquired in spring 2022.

"It has always been our intention to become operational and to utilize the license which we have invested nearly $150,000 into," wrote Emmett Reistroffer, operations manager of Genesis Farms, in a single-page letter sent to the Commission on Sept. 15.
