Sturgis Rally rumble brings slower speed limits, traffic changes back to Black Hills highways
Department of Transportation prepares for influx of bikers descending upon western South Dakota for 86th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
The unmistakable rumble of twin-cam engines sprawling across the Black Hills marks the start of what’s become South Dakota’s most iconic tradition.
Although the 86th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally doesn’t officially kick off until Friday, the population boom that’s happened every year for the last nine decades is upon the communities that dot the greater Rapid City area. And the added public safety efforts that come with it have the South Dakota Department of Transportation and their law enforcement partners making some changes to speed limits, intersection controls and traffic behavior expectations.
