State agrees to purchase option for prison land in Sioux Falls
Gov. Larry Rhoden's decision contingent upon approval by Legislature
CANTON — The state of South Dakota has purchased an option agreement to buy land in Sioux Falls for a new men’s prison, Gov. Larry Rhoden announced Friday.

The task force agreed after its first meeting in Springfield that the Dakota Territory-era South Dakota State Penitentiary needed to be replaced.
