PIERRE — High school baseball players will have to keep waiting for South Dakota to sanction the sport.

The South Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors decided that now is not the right time to sanction high school baseball at its meeting on Wednesday, citing an uncertain economy for school districts.

The process for considering the addition of baseball started in April 2024 after the board received requests to sanction the sport from the McCook Central and Mount Vernon high schools.
