Lincoln County Commission frustrated with lack of action to address ambulance service constraints as another community moves to limit service for rural neighbors

Lincoln County commissioners were warned Tuesday that its ambulance system is approaching a financial cliff.

And without changes, officials say their only choices may be reduced service, new revenue streams or deeper cooperation between local governments.

“Someone’s gotta pay,” Commissioner Jim Schmidt said during a lengthy morning meeting in Canton where the commission heard a briefing from a South Dakota Department of Health-based consultant.
