Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers say they are concerned by the number of drownings that have occurred so far this year at their recreation areas in the Midwest.

So far, seven drownings have occurred – including two in South Dakota. In addition to those, there have been other drownings along the Missouri River region.

In each of the seven drownings in Corps recreation areas, a common factor in each incident was that the victims were not wearing life jackets.
