Southeast Tech breaks ground on $18M manufacturing lab
The James Abdnor Center for Advanced Manufacturing expected to produce 130 additional graduates annually
South Dakota is betting on a sustained resurgence of America’s manufacturing sector with an $18 million trade laboratory in northwest Sioux Falls.
The 53,000-square-foot complex going up on the campus of Southeast Technical College, dubbed the James Abdnor Center for Advanced Manufacturing, is expected to produce an estimated 130 more field-ready, trade-tested graduates each year.
“The Abdnor Center will provide students with access to cutting-edge technology, hands-on learning experiences and industry partnerships that prepare them to excel in high-demand careers from the moment they graduate,” Southeast Technical College President Cory Clasemann said Friday during a ceremonial groundbreaking. Crews are expected to begin moving dirt in the coming days.
