South Dakota prisons to turn illegal immigrants over to ICE
State troopers, DOC, national guardsmen enlisted for immigration enforcement, crime interdiction through Gov. Rhoden’s ‘Operation: Prairie Thunder’
Expect more South Dakota National Guard soldiers and state police in the Sioux Falls area as part of ongoing efforts to round up illegal immigrants, parole absconders and drug dealers in the Sioux Falls area.
Gov. Larry Rhoden’s office on Monday announced “Operation: Prairie Thunder,” a multi-government public safety initiative that will target illegal drug and gang activity and commit state resources to support work being conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in eastern South Dakota. The governor is also directing the state’s correctional system to cooperate with ICE in deporting prisoners in Department of Corrections custody who had entered the country illegally.
