The hottest Sprint Car racer on the planet is showcasing his talents in Brandon this weekend — and he’s doing it with a South Dakota crew that’s beaming with pride.
Fresh off a historic Knoxville Nationals victory, 18-year-old Ryan Timms and Rapid City’s Liebig Motorsports rolled into Huset’s Speedway Friday for three nights of racing, earning a title on the eve a World of Outlaws doubleheader.
It’s a rapid rise for the Oklahoma City native, who only a year ago wondered if Sprint Car racing was in his future.
Timms exploded onto the scene in 2021 with double-digit wins — including five times at Huset’s as a 15-year old — and a new racing home in the Black Hills.
But struggles, self-doubt and social media pressure made him question whether the sport he’d grown up chasing was still his calling.
