South Dakota recorded one of the lowest drug overdose death rates in the nation last year.
The Mount Rushmore State saw 95 fatal overdoses in 2023, a rate of 10.27 deaths per 100,000 residents — well below the national average of 31.5 — according to a study by CPR First Aid, which analyzed Kaiser Family Foundation data.
