Parent company of South Dakota newspapers abruptly shutters
Brookings, Huron, Redfield, Flandreau outlets among victims of News Media Corp. closures
The publishing company that owns several newspapers in South Dakota abruptly shuttered them Wednesday, potentially ending the legacies of papers that have been in existence for generations.
News Media Corp. notified employees that the company was “closing its doors permanently,” effective Wednesday.
The company owns 150 publications, including five in South Dakota. Those include The Brookings Register, The Daily Plainsman in Huron, the Moody County Enterprise and Redfield Press. Most of the company’s newspapers are in its home state of Illinois and Wyoming.
