South Dakota lawmakers want state-wide vote on Medicaid work requirement authority
Resolution to put question on the ballot came up short in most recent legislative session
South Dakota voters, in approving Medicaid expansion last year, prohibited state lawmakers from imposing work requirements on federal health insurance recipients.
Now, lawmakers want another state-wide vote to amend that restriction, empowering the Legislature to determine the necessity of work requirements for able-bodied adults.
But first, Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree and Rep. Tony Venhuizen will need to convince their colleagues in Pierre to put the question on the ballot.
