South Dakota fire departments replace PFAS foam with soy-based alternative
More than 2,300 gallons of PFAS-containing foam collected through exchange program
More South Dakota firefighting agencies are swapping out their fire suppressant inventories once widely used by emergency responders for alternatives derived closer to home.
Another 32 fire departments across the state participated in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ latest PFAS collection initiative, removing more than 2,300 gallons of the chemicals known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances from the field.
