Two hospitality companies with a history of swapping state park concessions are now facing off over South Dakota’s premier state park.
A Colorado-based hospitality giant is preparing to take over Custer State Park’s resort operations after a nearly two-decade run by a Sioux Falls-based company that oversaw the transformation of the park into a year-round tourism destination.
The selection of Xanterra Travel Collection by the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission (GFP) to replace US Resort Hotel Management at the 72,000-acre park shifts a multimillion-dollar state tourism operation to a company headquartered outside South Dakota.
