Smaller Sioux Falls school opt out to lower homeowner property taxes in 2027
School Board honors retiring business manager Todd Vik amid report on robust student participation numbers
SIOUX FALLS — The Sioux Falls School Board approved a $1.9 million opt out Monday, cutting the request by $1 million from last year.
The district says homeowners should see a lower school tax bill in 2027. The board’s action starts the public notice and referral process, meaning voters could still force an opt-out election if enough signatures are filed.
There was no public testimony on the opt out. Board member Dawn Marie Johnson, who chaired Monday’s meeting, said there was “no one wishing to address the school board on non-agenda or agenda items” before the board approved the agenda and moved through the meeting.
