Six-figure embezzlement lands former tribal treasurer behind bars
Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe bilked out of $107K before arrest made
A South Dakota woman is headed to prison for embezzling from the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe.
Amanda Joy Quinn, 42, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and three years of probation following a felony conviction stemming from years of theft from the tribe’s Long Hollow District, where she once served as treasurer.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Quinn embezzled more than $107,000 during the three years that followed her election as the district’s treasurer in June 2017.
