A last-ditch attempt to keep the Brockhouse Collection of rare, exotic taxidermy mounts in Sioux Falls is underway.

A vote by Sioux Falls City Councilors this week to relinquish ownership of 152 specimens that had been on display at the Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum has triggered a drive to refer the City Council’s decision to a public vote.

“Henry Brockhouse was a huge business advocate in this town, and I feel this is something we should keep and help promote Sioux Falls,” said Mike Zitterich, who founded the ballot question committee called Concerned Citizens for Sioux Falls after councilors approved a resolution to surplus the collection and gift it to three out-of-state nonprofit museums.
