The driving course at the Public Safety Campus in Sioux Falls.

The Sioux Falls Police Department will host its first law enforcement certification class at the new, state-of-the-art Public Safety Campus that opened last fall.

Typically, certification classes are hosted at the Law Enforcement Training Center in Pierre. That facility is equipped with a dorm and cafeteria for the trainees, who spend about 13 weeks getting their state certification.

But that means trainees spend a sizeable amount of time away from their families, a potential drawback to recruitment efforts.
