Sioux Falls reaches labor deals with police, fire, employee unions
Mayor TenHaken to end tenure with successful negotiation record, no impasses in contract talks
The city of Sioux Falls has finalized new collective bargaining agreements with the three major unions representing most of its public workforce, marking the end of Mayor Paul TenHaken’s tenure with a clean labor slate.
The new agreements — reached with the Sioux Falls Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 1 L.C., the MEA/AFSCME representing civil servants, and Local 814 of the International Association of Firefighters — will take effect in 2026 and 2027. They secure pay raises for employees across public safety and city operations, with cost-of-living adjustments and market-based increases that vary by union.
