As summer transitioned to fall last year, Aaron Levisay had his ear to the ground on whether Sioux Falls would host an Independence Day parade in 2026.

He wasn’t hearing much.

So the 29-year military veteran and historian decided to do something about that. He made inquiries and learned how to navigate the city’s process for requesting special events, including parades. He put in an application and waited.
