Sioux Falls City Clerk shielding rejected ballot counts from mayor's election
City's recount supervisor cites City Attorney's Office, volume of information requests in delaying release of June 23 records until after July 4 weekend
It’ll have been two weeks since as many votes decided the mayor’s race in Sioux Falls before the city’s election chief will reveal how many rejected absentee ballots could be inspected during a looming recount.
City Clerk Jermery Washington acknowledged late Thursday that the city has the information but is withholding it until at least Monday, when officials plan to respond simultaneously to all public records requests related to the June 23 runoff between Christine Erickson and Jamie Smith and the pending recount of Erickson’s two-vote victory.
