Sioux Falls changing approach to teaching English learners amid study success

The Sioux Falls School District will change the way it teaches English to students who can’t speak the language following a successful two-year pilot project.
The experiment placed English learning students in traditional classrooms, where they received instruction from both regular teachers and those providing English language services.
The district reported that more than 3,100 Sioux Falls students currently qualify for English learner services – representing 40 percent of South Dakota’s total English learner population.
