Sioux Area Metro to add bus shelters amid increasing ridership
New mileage cap being put in place for on-demand service
Correction: A previous version of this story had an incorrect number of total bus stops that will be fitted with shelters.
Sioux Area Metro will add or upgrade existing bus shelters at a dozen of the city’s busiest stops as part of an overall effort to boost ridership and the public transit experience.
The 12 shelters include nine stops that do not currently have a shelter. SAM General Manager Torin Kalberg told city councilors Wednesday that SAM wants to “step up our game” with shelters that are welcoming and offer riders protection from the weather.
“It’s the door that a rider takes into the transit system,” Kalberg said.
