Sights & sounds: Lincoln High Marching Band finishes 18-month trek to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Patriot squad first South Dakota high school to perform in iconic American tradition since 2008
Sioux Falls’ Lincoln High School Marching Band performed Thursday during the 98th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
Braving wet, chilly conditions, the Patriots’ participation in the iconic holiday tradition marked the first time since 2008 a high school band from South Dakota has been represented in the event that’s been broadcast live nationwide on NBC each Thanksgiving for decades.
Led by LHS Marching Band Director Dan Carlson, a band of 215 and dozens more parents and chaperones made the trip to The Big Apple. Read about what it took to get there: Marching to Macy's: $1 million raised to send band to iconic parade; and check out some of the sights — and sounds — from the 18-month march to Herald Square.
