Shirley Ann Lorenz, age 90, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in Freeman, South Dakota. She was born on September 2, 1934, in Arlington, South Dakota, the daughter of Richard E. and Helena E. (Lohr) Mohror.
Catholic Daughters said the Rosary at 4:45 pm Thursday, January 16, at Miller Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 507 S. Main Ave, with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00 pm. A scripture service was held at 7:00 pm Thursday at Miller’s. Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 am Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Michael Parish, with burial at 2:45 pm at St. Boniface Cemetery in Clark, SD.
Shirley received her education in a rural school near Clark and graduated from Clark High School. She continued her education at Northern State College for 2 years and then taught school for 3 years. She was united in marriage to Theodore Lorenz on June 13, 1956. After their marriage, she was a stay-at-home mom for many years. When their youngest was in school, she worked as a housekeeper at a hospital and thereafter at several different stores and at FmHA.
Shirley was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD. She taught CCD for many years and was an active member of Catholic Daughters.
Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Virginia (Richard) Berge of Sisseton, SD, Diane (John) Schwingle of Bridgewater, SD, and Duane (Becky) Lorenz of Colton, SD; siblings, Robert (Helen) Mohror of Vinton, VA, Mary (Leroy) Kretzschmar of Pueblo, CO, Joanne Call of Roseville, CA, Jeanne (Les) Gavonie of Sacramento, CA, and Erma (Leslie) Dyer of Grant, NE; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Theodore, infant son, Eugene Richard, and brother, Larry Mohror.
