Skepticism swirled the authenticity of the origin story of a full-size bronze casting of Michelangelo’s “David” in downtown Sioux Falls a half century ago.
The Fawick Park statue had caused its fair share of squabbles since its donation to the city in the early 1970s, but three years after its installation, it wasn’t objections to the nearly two-story tall nude art piece. The replica renaissance sculpture’s acclaim had come under scrutiny by arts aficionados, according to the Mar. 5, 1976, edition of the Argus Leader.
