South Dakota artist Harvey Dunn. (South Dakota State University)

A Kingsbury County native who remains the most renowned artist to ever hail from South Dakota hand-hung a collection of paintings in Brookings 75 years ago this week — two years before his death.

And according to the Oct. 12, 1950, edition of the Argus Leader, the 37 pieces that Harvey Dunn agreed to display at the Pugsley Memorial Museum on the campus of South Dakota State College — now SDSU — would double as a standing invitation for his fellow South Dakotans to enjoy his work long into the future.
