A new South Dakota ballot designed to simplify the election process was introduced in 1926. But 100 years ago this week, as county auditors prepared for the November election, ballot complaints were coming in from a number of candidates across the state.
Among other problems, the final version of Minnehaha County’s ballot remained uncertain as county Democrats sought intervention from the state Supreme Court to replace candidates, according to the Sept. 15, 1926, edition of the Argus Leader.
