Lions and tigers and bears — oh, my.

A failed private zoo just outside of Sioux Falls auctioned off dozens of exotic animals a quarter century ago this week.

According to the Feb. 18, 2001, edition of the Argus Leader, the collection of living critters and beasts that had been living at Jasper’s Exotic Farm five miles west of the city came after the owners had run the zoo without necessary permitting. A federal fraud investigation also played a role in David Jasper and his wife swiftly offloading the animals, shuttering their business and moving out of state.
